I don't know what to say here except that this is my first entry. Hopefully I can get to know some cool people here?

I like Dreamwidth a lot. You're welcome to hang out in my corner! :D

Yeah, I personally like DW way more than tumblr, because it's more filterable and controllable. Buuuut sadly I understand that this style of site seems to be going out of fashion.

And oh, I know who y'all are now! Sorry, I'm really bad at tracking people from tumblr to another platform.

Well, that's the nice thing about Dreamwidth; you don't need to be if you don't want to. You can create various filters for different people, so only specific folks can see certain posts. (For instance, you might have a Porn Filter or a Sad Stuff filter, with different people under each.) You can also make private posts just for you.

Access and subscriptions are similar. You might want to FOLLOW someone's activity (say, a comics community that posts lots of comics you like), but not necessarily give them access to your stuff, and vice versa.

Tags are not global. They're just for you. And they aren't used for commentary like they are on tumblr, they're just to help you organize your stuff. And you can be free with them, because they are only as visible as the filters they're on. (So, for instance, 'my deepest darkest secrets,' if only used on private posts, would only show up for you. But if you make lots of public posts with the tag 'adorable animals,' folks can find that tag to see ALL the cuteness at a go.)

Generally, on Dreamwidth you make fewer posts. Having a gazillion short posts like on tumblr is kinda spammy and annoying here, but a loooooong post about the deep symbolism of dogs, that's fine and normal. (Though do use a cut!)
